2026 is the year of monochromatic color! Rounded bobs! And so much more. We are almost done with the first month of the year, so let's take a moment to regroup on the top hair trends you can expect to see in the next 11 months, shall we?
I asked some experts to share their predictions for the year ahead, and they didn't disappoint. Leading the charge is Gigi Hadid with her new matte black bob, but there's plenty more in store. Here's a curated list of a few of my favorites.
Matte Black Hair
As seen on Hadid, "this matte black color is the newest era of true black — rich and inky, without any red undertones," says celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos.
Rounded Bobs
2025 was the year of the bob, and 2026 is following suit. "Some people feel like they cannot have a shorter style because of their face shape, but there is a bob and length choice for everyone," says Jacelyn Bautista, hairstylist at NYC The Team. "The bob can be chic and styled in various ways, from smooth and sleek to cropped and flipped out."
Monochromatic Hair Color
Subtle, low-maintenance color is in. "The key to this look is one main tone throughout the hair with minimal contrast – no lines, streaky highlights, or money pieces," says Meri Kate O'Connor, celebrity hairstylist and senior colorist at Benjamin Salon West Hollywood. "Highlights are more tone-on-tone, creating a seamless, natural grow-out."
Soft Curtain Bangs
"Bangs are very youthful and fun and they're going to continue, but in a soft way, so they seamlessly blend in," says Joseph Maine, celebrity hairstylist and Trademark Beauty cofounder. "Most face shapes can handle curtain bangs as they are a soft style."
