| In the delicious swell of a budding romance, eating and sharing food is a chronically overlooked building block of intimacy. The big romantic gestures and sexual chemistry get all the attention, but the most mundane act of all — sharing a meal together — does more to bond us than we realize.
"The first sharing of any [romantic] relationship is usually some sort of meal or food," registered dietitian Marjorie Nolan Cohn tells me. Indeed, going out to dinner was the most popular first date activity among consumers polled in 2022. "Food is inherently emotional, it's how we bond, it's how we connect," she says.
So then . . . what happens when you find yourself falling for someone with completely different dietary preferences or needs than your own? If a lifelong vegetarian falls for a BBQ enthusiast; a peanut butter lover for a nut allergy sufferer? Maybe two people share the same food preferences until one receives a sudden medical diagnosis that totally upends how and what they eat?
As a borderline neurotic lover of food myself, these are the kinds of questions that keep me up at night. So I spoke with experts to try to answer them. Click the link below to learn why more couples than ever are seeking the help of a joint dietitian. |

| Ah, yes, the butt tattoo. A classic. But be forewarned: moments before I got my own, the artist — hovering his instrument of torture centimeters from my flesh — decided to share that the butt is a surprisingly painful placement. Thank you, sir. Now if you would be so kind as to carry on with your task of permanently branding me with this crude rendering of a witch's hat, I will be on my way. |

What to Put on Your Bali Packing List, According to an Editor |
I've traveled quite a lot in my life, but the farthest from home I've ever been was during a trip to the Indonesian province of Bali. The trip entailed two flights amounting to about 20 hours in the air, and then a two-hour drive upon landing. Worth it? Without a doubt.
Bali is beautiful, yes, but it's more than just a place to plop down your beach chair. Referred to as the Island of a Thousand Temples, it's become known as a spiritual destination for travelers seeking dedicated time for wellness, self-care, and reflection.
On such a spiritual trip, it feels wrong to worry about outfits and personal possessions. So while my vacation wardrobe wasn't at the forefront of my mind, I did still learn a thing or two about how to put together a solid Bali packing list. And I'm going to hold your hand while I tell you this: Bali is not the place for your oversize luggage. — Kelsey Garcia |
