The Inspiration
“The inspiration behind Jordyn’s wedding hair was really about creating something timeless,” Washington tells Popsugar. “We played around with a few ideas, including wearing her hair down and a half-up, half-down look, but the bun just made sense.” In the end, they knew they wanted her hair off her shoulders so you could fully appreciate her dress and makeup.
“It felt chic, timeless, and effortless,” he says. “We created a more architectural shape to give the classic bun a modern feel while still keeping the overall look clean and refined.”
The Process
The first step in creating this ultra-slick bun was giving Woods’ hair a mirror-like finish. “I started by mixing Kenra Platinum Silkening Gloss ($29) with Living Proof Perfect Hair Day High-Shine Gloss ($38) and applying the combination throughout Jordyn’s damp hair from roots to ends,” says Washington.
From there, he blow-dried it and added a little more of the Kenra Silkening Gloss as heat protectant. “Jordyn has color-processed hair, so protecting the integrity of her hair throughout the styling process was extremely important to me,” says Washington. “I wanted to achieve that sleek, high-gloss finish without compromising the health of her hair.”
Once her hair was pressed out, it was time to pull it back using a combination of two products: the KeraCare Styling Wax Stick ($16) and Color Wow Texas Hold ’Em Hairspray ($32).
“For the architectural bun, I worked in Oribe Fiber Groom ($39) to control any flyaways while maintaining that glossy finish,” he says. And lastly, he locked in the whole look with another coat of hairspray. “The goal throughout the entire process was shine, hydration, and control while keeping her hair protected and healthy.”
