Like Lexi Minetree, the star of the new Amazon Prime Video series "Elle," I don't remember the first time I watched "Legally Blonde." Instead, "What, like it's hard?" has always ranked among cinema's most iconic lines in my mind. I even did briefly consider a career in law in middle school thanks to Elle Woods.
Now, 25 years later, "Legally Blonde" has a prequel, and it's produced by Reese Witherspoon herself. "Elle" takes place in 1995, as our titular star just moved from Bel Air to dreary Seattle to start her junior year of high school. She receives a cold welcome from her new classmates, including zine-making musician Liz, played by Gabrielle Policano, and cool girl Kimberly, played by Chandler Kinney.
But on the set of our Popsugar Pulse cover shoot, this trio was the furthest thing from frenemies. They're real-life besties, actually: texting constantly in a group chat called "The Powerpuff Girls," crashing in each other's apartments, and finishing each other's sentences. Everyone on set could feel the palpable bond between them.
As the world is introduced to the show, we wanted to introduce you all to the dynamic behind it. Because the power of friendship is one of the most important lessons we all learned from the original "Legally Blonde." This trio carries on that legacy — and proves that finding your people can help you find yourself.
