Fun fact: I have a group chat called BOD, which stands for Board of Directors. As in, Renee’s Board of Directors. It consists of my two best friends, who essentially direct my life and help manage my life decisions.
The board weighs in on every guy I go on a date with, many outfits I wear, a majority of texts I send, most spirals I have, and any minor inconvenience I experience. Men can be voted out of my life, outfits can be voted out — nothing is safe from review.
I have group chats from trips I took back in 2019. The trips ended, the group chats did not. At this point, I honestly don’t even remember what we originally talked about in there — it has just become part of the infrastructure of my daily life.
There are group chats for everything. I have one for my AMC movie group called “Nicole’s Children” in honor of Nicole Kidman and her iconic AMC monologue. I have hyper-specific group chats, niche group chats, and temporary group chats that became permanent group chats. They all serve a purpose. They are all there for me exactly when I need them.
Unfortunately, when something happens in my life, my first instinct is to report it to the group chat. Good news? Group chat. Bad news? Group chat. Weird interaction? Group chat. Potential new crush? Emergency board meeting.
A tiny council of people ready to weigh in on your life at a moment’s notice? Emotional support at its finest.
Double Dog Dare You: Create a hyper-specific group chat this weekend and give it an unnecessarily good name. Find some fun ideas here.
