Would you work out in split-toe shoes? Kim Kardashian has been making waves with her NikeSKIMS collection for well over a year now, begging the question with every drop: what's new and next in the fashion-meets-fitness athleisure world?
The NikeSKIMS Rift ($160) is the perfect example. Inspired by Nike's barefoot running model, the shoe — which I own in a ballet-like satin, but is also available in a lightweight mesh ($150) — reminds people of Maison Margiela's inimitable Tabi silhouette. And just like that, Kardashian brought a recognizable product of luxury fashion to the masses, challenging us to work out in a flexible flat that's meant to bring you closer to the ground.
I spent a full week in mine, styling them with sporty basics for long walks and running errands, as well as Khloé Kardashian's new Fabletics apparel for a strength workout. While you can watch me deliver my more detailed review here, I'm happy to cut to the chase and report that I actually found these most useful for Pilates-like workouts (including reformer).
I think of them as a next-level grip sock, and if you strength train often, then you've probably heard it's best to keep your feet as flat as possible while you're getting in your reps. A lot of trainers and coaches even suggest working out barefoot. This offers the perfect in-between. I wouldn't walk miles or try to run in them, but I've retired a few pairs of old, faded grip socks now that I have them.

To this day, I have yet to find a workout class that feels as worth it to me as Orangetheory. The prices are fair in a world of boutique fitness sessions, and there's just the right amount of motivation to spark some competition with yourself. Here's everything you need to know about becoming an OTF devotee.

Testing Brooks Nader's Pilates Catsuit For Function
|
I will not lie to you, I had never lifted weights (even light, five-pound dumbbells!) in a workout catsuit. But inspired by Brooks Nader's cool-girl look and impressed by the quality of Spiritual Gangster's offerings, I decided to give the Nirvana Avery Jumpsuit ($128) a go. I also just started watching "Love Thy Nader" (I know, don't ask what took me so long), so I'm starting to understand the Nader sister influence.
If you consider yourself a Pilates princess, this sleek, flared one-piece is a must buy. Thanks to its adjustable straps that are sturdier than they look and ultra-soft sculpting fabric, I was able to perform heavy weighted squats, side lunges, dead lifts, and more during my 45-minute session. And since it passed the test for weight lifting, I wore it for an NYC-based class into brunch with my best friend, and grew even more obsessed. The colorway is sophisticated, the open back is just the right amount of sexy, and the seams are elongating.
