I think we need to start muting people more. At a certain point, you just have to say: I've seen enough.
Muting someone isn't the same as unfollowing or blocking them. It's the chill, low-effort version of both. Nothing dramatic happens. There's no statement, no notification, no awkwardness. They have no idea. And yet, your entire experience changes. It's not mean. It's not aggressive. It's just a quiet decision.
Need to get over a situationship? Mute them. Want to move on from a friendship that no longer serves you? Mute them. Are every single one of your extended family members annoying as hell on social media? Yep, you guessed it — mute them. You never have to watch their stories. Their posts stop popping up. And over time, you can genuinely forget that they exist. Which, in some cases, is exactly the goal.
I can't wait until they invent a mute button for real life.
Double Dog Dare You: If you've thought "I've seen enough," — mute them.
