This Friday, I’m obsessed with finding out someone said something nice behind my back. Let’s call it. . . talking sweet. It’s like talking shit, but better. (I say this as someone who enjoys dabbling in gossip every once in a while.)
There is nothing — and I mean nothing — (OK, maybe getting over your ex-boyfriend of three years, but besides that, nothing) better than learning someone said something nice about you behind your back. Yes, we’re all well aware of how crappy it feels when you find out someone has said something bad behind your back, but nice? It’s a nearly indescribable high.
A front-facing compliment is always great. I love to hear, “I love your outfit,” or, “Your makeup looks great.” However, when it gets reported back to you that someone had something nice to say about you? It hits different. They didn’t say it to you. They weren’t trying to be nice. They weren’t performing. They just said it, unprompted.
When a friend casually mentions, “Wait, by the way, so-and-so was saying you’re really cool,” suddenly my entire week is made. And obviously, I need details. What exactly did they say? What was their tone? The context? Lay it all on me, because I will be thinking about this for the next three to five business years. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.
All I know is that if you hear something nice about me that someone said behind my back, I expect a full report.
Double Dog Dare You: This weekend, tell three people something nice about someone else behind their back.
