| If you skipped the Grammys on Sunday night, I regret to inform you that you missed a lot. Justin Bieber performed in underwear and socks. Bad Bunny won three awards, including Album of the Year. And Chappell Roan stepped onto the red carpet in what can only be described as a near-nude Mugler moment, complete with nipple-piercing suspensions.
The burgundy chiffon dress and matching cape, designed by Miguel Castro Freitas for Mugler, was already doing the most thanks to its sheer fabric. Add the piercing detail, and it instantly became one of the night's most talked-about looks.
The dress itself is a contemporary recreation of a haute couture set that the late Manfred Thierry Mugler debuted in 1998, when a silk slip was literally suspended from a model's real nipple rings on the runway. It was shocking then, iconic ever since, and it landed with the same impact on Sunday night.
The twist? Roan's nipples weren't real. They were prosthetics crafted by artist Sasha Glasser, who used a piece from Out of Kit, reinforced it with power mesh, and pierced the jewelry directly through the prosthetic so it could actually hold. I have a few modern-day fashion icons — Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and yes, even "Summer House'"s Amanda Batula. I love classic, basic streetwear, and these ladies know exactly how to rock it. When I saw Bieber post herself not once, but twice, wearing the Brū Eyewear Echo Acetate Blue Light Glasses ($135), I knew I had to try them; they were a splurge I could actually justify.
One week in, and I can confidently say these glasses are incredible. They frame my face perfectly, give me a sleek, tech-y vibe, and I have received compliment after compliment. People actually take me more seriously with them on, and usually, I roll my eyes at blue-light glasses, but these genuinely reduce eye strain by the end of the day. The only thing to note is the frames are small, so sometimes when my eyes drift outside of them, I catch a momentary glimpse of the edge. |
