Anyone else having trouble processing the fact that the holidays are happening as we speak — or I mean, as you read this? (In my head, we're speaking to each other . . .) I saw a TikTok video the other day about how we need to push the holidays further into winter to extend the magic — and I know why that's literally not possible, but I wholeheartedly agree. The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah simply goes by too fast. Hopefully, by this point, you're about done with your gift shopping, which means it's time to start thinking about other little details — like the makeup look or hairstyle you plan on wearing to your Christmas Eve or New Year's party. In the wintertime, I personally gravitate toward polished looks and updos that wear great with turtlenecks or scarves, and hair accessories like embellished clips, French hairpins, claw clips, and, of course, bows. For makeup, I'm fawning over frosted eyeshadow, "cloud" skin, and deep berry lip colors. For inspo you can re-create at home, keep scrolling. |

In today's column, senior staff writer Renee Rodriguez tries a silk wrap to fix a broken nail.

A short list of things I learned this weekend: my nails are not infallible, and I suck at basketball. While on holiday in Arizona, I badly broke one of my beloved fingernails. I know, I know: first-world problems. But getting my natural nails to a good place has been a long and arduous process, and breaking one felt like a major setback. Last year, I was having trouble growing out my nails after too many months of back-to-back gel manicures, and it wasn't until I was introduced to builder gel that I was able to get my nails back on track. Although builder gel has helped me grow my nails longer (and stronger) than ever before, it was no match for a basketball smashing one of my fingers and therefore breaking one of my nails straight across the middle. Luckily, my nail technician had a fix for that: a silk wrap. Ahead, I detail what a silk wrap is and how it can help fix a broken nail, and you can see exactly how stunning my nails looked post-fix. — Renee Rodriguez |
