Before last month, Popsugar's Chandler Plante would have NEVER called herself a puzzler. All those tiny little pieces, the time spent sitting hunched in uncomfortable positions, and the lack of immediate gratification? No thanks. If she needed a mental-health break, her FYP was right at her fingertips.
But FOMO's a powerful thing. Having watched her mother gleefully piece together a 1,000-piece winter landscape, Chandler started to think she might be missing out on something.
For a week, she vowed to cut down the morning scroll and break out a puzzle. "It may sound silly, but I legitimately dreaded this experiment," Chandler recalls.
"But as the week went on, I found myself looking forward to my screen-free mornings. The dopamine I got from piecing together even a small section of the puzzle was far better than the doom-scrolling I had grown accustomed to," she writes. "Time flew by, and I noticed myself wishing my puzzling sessions were longer."
