WNBA Players Deserve Better From Their Fans |
"The WNBA season is well underway, and the league's never looked brighter," writes Popsugar contributor Israa Nasir. However, "behind the growing hype and media buzz lies a quieter, more personal revolution: the fight for the athletes' mental health."
The recent swell of support for women's sports is a hard-fought win for women athletes and their fans, and "a long-overdue step toward gender equity, pay parity, and cultural visibility." But, as Israa points out, "this progress comes with a complex reality: alongside record-breaking endorsements and sold-out arenas, women athletes are also facing increasing threats to their safety, mental well-being, and personal lives."
Like in so many other industries, women athletes generally have to overcome remarkable odds to get just half the recognition of their men counterparts.
