For a while, it seemed like a new celebrity beauty brand was popping up every month. (In 2020 alone, we saw over 10 new companies, followed by 15 more in 2021 and 18 in 2022.). That was followed by an era when influencer-owned brands were the talk of the town. Now, however, the pros want in — and I don't blame them. You're probably well acquainted with quite a few brands in this category already. There's Patrick Ta Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs, Makeup by Mario (owned by Mario Dedivanovic), Kim Kimble Hair, and Renée Rouleau Skin Care — just to name a few. This year, even more are joining in. Celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips, who has worked with stars like the Kardashian-Jenners and Hailey Bieber, made major (beauty) news in July when she announced her new makeup brand, M.ph, inspired by her famous underpainting technique. A month before that, in June, celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan — the legend behind Jennifer Aniston's amazing hair — launched his namesake hair-care brand. Not to mention, Jen Atkin — who owns not one but two beloved brands, Ouai and Mane Addicts — is relaunching the latter with an entirely new brand vision. While I'm a big fan of many celebrity brands, there's no denying the appeal of products developed by the very pros that we look up to. I recently got my hands on the M.ph Underpainting Palette, and — spoiler — it's so freaking good. Stay tuned for a Vetted video with three Popsugar editors trying it out. |

In today's column, senior staff writer and social producer Renee Rodriguez tests the TikTok viral passport photo makeup hack.

The last time I had a passport photo taken, I was 22 and heading to Costa Rica to teach English after graduating from college. I wore a plaid button-down, a fugly red scarf, and absolutely zero makeup. Somehow, I still managed to look cute. Now it's time for a brand-new passport photo, and because I wanted it to look even better than my last one, I tested TikTok's viral passport photo makeup tutorial. Originally created by TikTok user Georgia Barratt, this 15-step routine promises the best passport photo you'll ever take. Did it involve way more steps than my typical makeup routine? Yes. But did my makeup look better than it ever had before? Also yes. The verdict? It's absolutely worth trying — and I'll probably do it for my license photo, too. Ahead, I detail the entire process and give you a step-by-step guide to getting the perfect passport makeup. — Renee Rodriguez |

- If you used these products, it's time for retinol . . .
- Where do you stand on the great debate? We're talking about gen Z short nails vs. millennial almond nails?
- As someone who was married last year in a small, 40-person ceremony, I can confirm this wedding cost projection is (sadly) accurate. Sorry, Belly.
