"It looks like they're auditioning for world war fucking three," one TikTok creator said in describing the intense physical feats of a Hyrox competition. If you haven't yet ended up on HyroxTok, you're lucky. Because once you do, it's hard to look away. Hyrox is framed as the "race for hybrid athletes" and entails eight kilometers of running (roughly five miles) and eight strength-based workout stations — from sled pushes, to rows, to everyone's favorite . . . burpees. There's no finishing time restriction, and according to the Hyrox website, 98 percent of athletes successfully complete the race. But given that it's a competition, the goal is to finish as quickly as possible. Still, most athletes would say they do it for personal growth. "At the end of the day, Hyrox is really you versus you, and when that's the case, you have no choice but to win," says group fitness instructor Jen Anderson. |
