"Post-Baby Clarity" Is the Ultimate Relationship Test |
Though I've never given birth, I imagine the period immediately following the expulsion of a fully formed human baby from my insides will be one of utter confusion and psychological haze. Where am I? Who are these people? I just squeezed what out of where now?
Turns out, the birthing process might actually be more clarifying than I thought. At least according to reproductive psychiatrist Sarah Oreck, MD, who recently walked Popsugar senior editor Taylor Andrews through the ins and outs of a common postpartum phenomenon called "post-baby clarity."
For new parents, that clarity — "an epiphany of sorts, brought on by the physical act of birth, the emotional high of new parenthood, and the sudden responsibility of caring for another human" — can sometimes unlock all new levels of intimacy and love. But it can also have the opposite effect, exposing the cracks in a relationship's foundation that were once overlooked. |
