One of my favorite things about being a beauty editor is getting access to the best of the best beauty pros in the industry. Over the years, we've learned nail tips from Selena Gomez's manicurist, antiaging secrets from Martha Stewart's dermatologists, and, most recently, how Sabrina Carpenter's hairstylist creates the "Maneater" singer's iconic lived-in curls. You know the look: bouncy and voluminous with curls that teeter between an unbrushed blowout and old-school glam waves. Laurie Heaps is a celebrity hairstylist whose clients include stars like Rowan Blanchard, Miranda Cosgrove, and, of course, Carpenter. She's worked with the singer on everything from the Grammys red carpet to onstage looks, so you can say she knows a thing or two about creating a good hairstyle that will last. Her biggest tip for longevity? Curl, clip, and cool. "This creates a lasting, soft wave that moves," she says. "I use a one-inch curling iron, working in sections and curling towards the face. Each curl gets clipped with Emi Jay clips ($34) while it cools to lock in the shape without losing softness. Once everything's cool, I take out the clips and either gently brush through [the hair] or rake it out with my fingers." As someone who has trouble getting any style to hold in my hair for longer than a few hours, I can confirm that this is life-changing. Click here for six more tips that even beginners can follow. |

| The C-shape haircut is a universally flattering style. It frames the face with layers that offer lots of movement and texture. If you needed any further convincing to try it, Jennifer Aniston just gave it a whirl. If it's good enough for her . . .

| Ah, the perm. Growing up, I remember my mom telling me horror stories about her curl-enhancing treatment gone awry. But this is not your mother's perm. Thank god.

I Tried the Hailey Bieber-Approved "American Manicure" and Got So Many Compliments |
I have never received more compliments on my nails than when I had an American manicure. If you haven't heard of the trend yet, let me explain. It's similar to a French manicure, but, well . . . better (in my opinion). Rather than a classic white and pink French or a clear base with a stark white tip, the trend incorporates a much more muted contrast.
When I saw Hailey Bieber sporting an American manicure earlier this summer, I knew it was my sign to get my butt into the salon. I'm someone who loves a pared-down, effortless look, and everything I saw online about the trend screamed that it was perfect for me.
Ahead, find out which products celebrity nail artist Natalie Minerva used to give me the look. |
