We've covered weddings a lot over the years. In recent months, we've tracked micro weddings, the rise of the wedding content creator, and the time-honored tradition of a good ol' Las Vegas elopement. And despite the wide array of wedding trends coming and going, couples are constantly finding new ways to customize their celebrations — and make them truer to who they are as individuals and, of course, a pair.
That brings us to kink weddings, or ceremonies that center BDSM dynamics, fetish fashion, and nontraditional forms of devotion. Take, for example, Arielle Greenberg, a writer who had both a traditional wedding in her hometown and a separate kink wedding featuring a "cuddle pile" and vows affirming the relationship's dominant-submissive dynamic.
While some of these ceremonies might make more vanilla couples blush, it's easy to relate to that feeling of not wanting to get swept up by the wedding industry and forced into some copy-paste celebration. As Ariel M. Stallings, publisher of Offbeat Wed, told PS, "People want to have a wedding that authentically reflects who they are." |
