If you haven't tuned in to the WNBA, you're missing out. Not only are the players icons and cultural curators — often setting fashion trends, breaking glass ceilings, and making history — they're also insanely talented. But unlike their men counterparts in the NBA, their salaries are less than impressive — despite breaking audience and viewership records repeatedly in recent years. For context: Paige Bueckers, the first overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, is making $78,831 in her first year, with the potential to earn $348,198 over four years. In comparison, the NBA's first overall draft pick in 2023, Victor Wembanyama, signed a four-year, $55.7 million rookie contract to play for the San Antonio Spurs; he earned over $10 million in year one. Now, we're not saying the salaries should be equal — just more equitable (more on that in the article!). Our question: why are women athletes always being shortchanged? |
