Empowering BIPOC Women Through Breast Reconstruction Education

ACTUAL BREAST RECONSTRUCTION PATIENT

After being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 37, Dr. Alexea Gaffney felt emotionally numb—but her determination to feel like herself again led her on a journey to empowerment. Knowing she was interested in pursuing breast reconstruction, Dr. Gaffney spoke with her doctor about her available options, and found power and confidence through education. Today, Dr. Gaffney strives to bridge the disparity gap that many Black and Brown women face in terms of access to information and healthcare resources. In addition to being a physician, she's now an advocate and activist—and an invaluable part of the breast cancer community.
