It's Time to Stop the Tobacco Industry and Save Black Lives. 'No Menthol Sunday' Urges Action To Protect Black Health.

The Center for Black Health and Equity is bringing together Black health and faith leaders to participate in the "No Menthol Sunday" observance on May 15, which will highlight the harm menthol cigarettes cause to Black health. Largely because of menthol cigarettes, Black smokers die at higher rates from tobacco-related diseases like cancer, heart disease and stroke. Tobacco use is the number one cause of preventable death among Black Americans, claiming 45,000 Black lives each year.

This Sunday advocates like Carol McGruder are showing their full support for the FDA's proposed rules to ban menthol cigarettes, saying there is no time to waste in saving Black lives.
